If I could only pick one quote to live by for the rest of my life… First, I would have a panic attack. I would consider what the most important part of life is, not just for me but for the entire world. Then, I would spiral about what encapsulates my entire existence into something that makes it all matter? Did I truly feel it in my soul that this is what I would live by?? The unanswerable questions go on and on and naming them is already making my heart race faster.
However, somewhere between peace and a panic attack, I decided that if I had to pick one quote, country music to my ears, it would be this one:
We are all walking each other home.
This quote found me while I was listening to a Buddhist podcast (Rebel Buddhist with Ana Verzone; https://anaverzone.com/podcast/). Hearing it felt like waking up from a restorative nap.
I like to put quotes in my pocket, so that when I’m not being my best self, I have an available reminder of how I want to show up. This one has never failed me. In my deepest betrayals, I have felt this. During bitterness, distance, and sweet tastes of life, I have remembered; We are all walking each other home.
My favorite quotes are ones that hold their value through the ebbs and flows of life. When I went through a great emotional betrayal from someone who was meant to protect me, I reminded myself that we are walking each other home. We were walking together, whether we liked it or not. I was going home, and he was too. He walked me through a path I would never return. But. We are the same. We are doing the same and we are here to help each other. In the end, we will all make it home. I hope I can make everyone’s walk a little brighter.
